But first a little background. When we moved into the new location of Bykota House, we found we had a neighbor next door with a laundry that is run out of their home. This is how most businesses are run in Cambodia. They had a young girl working there that was always working and it seemed she never went to school. In a get-acquainted-with-the-new-neighbors-chat Mark found out that the little girl was not a member of the family. Rather she was a young girl from the owner's home village. The young girl's father was dead and the mother was very ill. The laundry owner offered to provide a home and a job for the young girl. The Bykota Kids immediately set about getting to know the young girl and would chat with her in free time. They were telling her about themselves, their background, Bykota House, and when they found out she didn't know about Jesus...they began telling her all about what they have been learning. They reported to Mark and Rhonda that the young girl started out getting paid a small amount for the job, but now she just worked and that was it. This amounted to nothing more than slavery. We inquired as to the girl's situation and made it known that we would be happy to have her at Bykota House and make a way for her to get schooling. The young girl, Dany, slipped a note to the Bykota Kids and asked that we make no more inquiries because it bothered her owner and they "hit" her. We immediately stopped after that one inquiry. The mission team from Bykota used that laundry to get their wash done and they all saw the young girl and smiled at her in friendship. Nothing more. We all just agreed to pray about the situation. Mark had no doubt that the Lord did not plan for her to live in slavery right next door to the blessing of Bykota House. Out of the blue, the laundry owner made contact with Bykota House staff and told them that he was going home on holiday to his home village and that if a Khmer staff member would accompany him, he would introduce them to the child's mother to inquire about placement at Bykota House. We are so thankful to God we can share with everyone now Dany is a child of Bykota House. Papers are all signed and custody transferred. She made the transition on Monday our time and started school on Tuesday morning. Sweet Dany is our 6th girl and brings the total number of Bykota Kids to 15! We want to share this news with our home team back in the States. Please pray as we get her settled and take care of all her initial needs.
